Literature Translation Project

Report for August, 2003

The Lord calls men for every work of His.

Just a few years ago God’s people were praying for an open door into what are now former communist countries. God opened the door. God called men and they responded. The result is so many churches and missions in countries in Eastern Europe. Now there is a need to provide the tools for these churches to help their people understand the depth of God’s love. Our goal is to make these tools available.

Literature is being made ready for the press in the Philippines, Thailand and especially Romania. Young converts are eagerly helping in this project. Among them are Liviu and Ramona Clinciu. (See picture 1.) Liviu was saved at the age of thirteen, very soon after the communist dictator was overthrown in Romania. Missionary John Sanders led him to the Lord. He surrendered to the ministry of the gospel at the age of fifteen, was married to Ramona at age twenty and accepted the post of pastor of the church in Brasov by the time he was twenty-two. Ramona was led to the Lord by Missionary Doug Wiersema. She was faithful in service with the mission where Brother Doug works until she was married to Liviu.

About four years ago Ramona and Liviu began working together to translate children’s literature for use in the missions of Romania. Please join Rita and me as we pray for the continued progress of the translation project in Romania! Pray also for young men such as the one standing with me in picture 2, that God will call them into His glorious work!

The Lord provides for those who respond to His call.

We praise God for the reception we are receiving in every church we have had time to visit! What a wonderful people God has prepared through whom He is providing for the need of those who commit themselves to His call. Rita and I have been made very humble before Him because of the love He has shown us through pastors and church members alike. Here is a list of churches and individuals who have helped reassure us with their prayers and offerings during the month of August:

This month I want to express special appreciation to the Heritage Baptist Church of Point of Rocks, Maryland. (See picture 3.) The property where this church worships was first located and purchased through the work of the late Don Johnson who was so faithful to his calling! Recently, Missionary Alvin Dickerson, sponsored by Southside Baptist Church, Star City, Arkansas, was used of the Lord to revive the work and Heritage was organized in May of 2003. It was a blessing to be with this congregation one Sunday in August. Already the church, under the leadership of Pastor Scott Lacy, is very much involved in missions world wide.

The Lord will protect those who do His work.

In the month of August we have visited churches in Arkansas, Texas, Maryland, Virginia and Kentucky. If the Lord leads you to have a part in this ministry, please contact me at the telephone number or email address below, or contact the pastor of our endorsing church, Brother Joel Meredith and Calvary Baptist Church, Hamburg, Arkansas.

Last month we mentioned that we would be going to the Philippines in October. Because of the pressing needs of deputation work, we have postponed that trip until January, 2004. If you or your church would like to share in the blessings of providing tools for teachers in these countries, you may contact us at any time.

Rita and I will be working with the translators to prepare materials for the printing press. We will also be training teachers in the use of curriculum materials and lecturing to students about the precious principles of God’s Word.

May the Lord receive the Glory!

God has called. God has provided. God will enable His people to proclaim the glorious messsage of the gospel so the people of the world can understand how to be saved and how to serve our great God!  May the Lord bless your participation in this work!
