The Crooked Creek Campground, nestled in the Transylvania Mountain of west central Romania, began around the turn of the century when American Missionary Robert Bloom secured the property. Other missionaries joined in the work of developing the property. Churches in USA sent men and money for the work. Missionaries John Sanders, Doug Wiersema, Steve Rutherford, Jim Black, Jerry Chandler and others have spent many hours working at the camp ground. While it is not complete, the main camp building now enables encampments of up to one hundred children and adults.
Everyone in the camp enjoys a good hike on the trail leading by the creek and up the mountain. As we walked along we heard the Romanians talking about how wonderful our God is to have created such splendor!
The food was great. For desert we all enjoyed watermellon.
But singing songs, old and new, about the love or Christ seemed to be the highlight of the camp for most of the campers. Missionary Doug Wiersema was in charge of the camp. He asked Missionary Bill Johnson to bring the messages. Bill spoke about the great God we have. The only true and living God. The God who loves every person in the world.
Although the camp was for adults and the lessons centered around the spiritual needs of adults there were some children in attendence. They had plenty of adults who would cuddle them and play with them.
This structure, located on about one acre of land near a large new housing development for middle-income Thai people is adequate for about one hundred people to worship. The building in front will be razed because of extensive termite damage. The building in back is being used for worship and for housing for the missionaries.
